AliExpress boosts accessibility with local currency in Egypt

AliExpress, a leading global online shopping platform, is reinforcing its commitment to African e-commerce by expanding payment options. Building on last year's successful launch of local mobile payment methods, which improved access to global products, shoppers in Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia, Morocco, South Africa, and Tanzania can now pay in their local currencies, starting this March. This provides a more seamless and secure payment experience, complementing previous integrations like M-Pesa in Kenya and Opay and Verve in Nigeria.

This expansion aligns with AliExpress's major promotional campaign from March 17-26, where customers can utilize exclusive coupons and easily shop with local currencies. Further enhancing the customer experience, AliExpress has reduced cross-border delivery times to 10 days in select countries and opened its first African showroom in Ethiopia for wholesale buyers.

“Our platform offers a vast range of products from numerous merchants, and we're thrilled to improve African consumers' access through local payment integrations," stated Bonnie Chao, AliExpress Business Director. "We understand the complexities of cross-border e-commerce and are simplifying processes to make global shopping more accessible and enjoyable."

Through these initiatives, AliExpress aims to provide a more convenient e-commerce experience in Africa, driving growth and expanding economic opportunities.
