Speaking at a press conference held Sunday to announce details of the new social protection package directed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday, Madbouly said the President’s directives included the immediate disbursement of February salaries for state employees starting this week, ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
He added that improved economic indicators now allow for the
allocation of approximately EGP 40 billion to be distributed to citizens through
the social protection package.
Madbouly noted that 15 million families will benefit from
the new social protection package, while another 15 million families will
receive cash support twice between now and Eid al-Fitr.
He also announced that Minya Governorate, with a population
of around seven million, will be included in the comprehensive health insurance
system.
During the press conference, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk
said Egypt’s financial performance and all economic indicators, including inflation,
are improving, giving cause for optimism about a brighter future. He added that
this progress provides the government with the flexibility to act carefully,
prioritize citizens’ welfare, and align with the state’s commitment to
supporting the largest possible segment of the population and providing cash
assistance to those eligible.
Kouchouk stated that EGP 10 billion will be allocated to
support the health sector.
He added that around EGP 4 billion will be provided as
additional support for the Takaful and Karama social welfare program.
Furthermore, 15,000 rural women leaders will receive
additional financial assistance during Ramadan.
The minister also announced that EGP 8.8 billion will be
allocated to provide extra support to around ten million families over a
two-month period.
He explained that each ration card within the subsidized
goods system will receive an additional EGP 400. This applies to ten million
cards, representing ten million families, each with four or more members,
meaning millions of citizens will benefit from the increase.
