Accompanied by Assistant Minister Abdelrahman El-Baz and officials from the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, El-Wazir reviewed progress on the section spanning from Damietta Furniture City to Baltim. The project covers 37 kilometres in Damietta governorate and 27 kilometres in Dakahlia.
The upgrade is part of a comprehensive plan to modernize
Egypt’s primary artery for Mediterranean ports, including Port Said, Damietta,
Alexandria, and Gargoub. The road serves seven governorates and multiple
industrial zones, including New Damietta, Gamasa, and Motobas.
Construction is currently underway on a 12-metre-wide
concrete service road in each direction. Once complete, the highway will
feature six lanes per direction, including three reinforced concrete lanes
dedicated to heavy trucks. This separation aims to improve road safety and
mitigate the impact of overloaded vehicles on the asphalt.
The project also includes the construction of 23 flyovers to
serve commuters and adjacent commercial entities.
El-Wazir was briefed on the broader progress of the coastal
route. Completed works include the section from Gamasa to Al-Burullus and
upgrades between Alexandria and Matrouh. Meanwhile, concrete truck lanes are
being laid from Damietta to the Black Sand Dredger, alongside widening works on
the 240-kilometre stretch between Matrouh and Salloum.
The Minister also followed up on the 62-kilometre expansion
of the East Damietta Road, specifically the 25-kilometre segment between
Sherbin and Faraskur. A 22-kilometre section from Sherbin to Mansoura has
already been completed.
Engineer El-Wazir ordered contractors to accelerate the pace of work while maintaining high quality standards across all projects.
