Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy continued his official meetings during his current visit to the Spanish capital for the FITUR 2026 international tourism trade fair.

The Minister held a meeting with Sheikha Al-Nowais, Secretary-General of UN Tourism, in the presence of Ihab Badawi, Egypt’s Ambassador to Spain, and Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion.

The meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance cooperation between the ministry and the organization to support Egypt’s tourism industry in line with international standards.

Discussions focused on developing tourism statistics systems and obtaining accurate data for member states, including Egypt. Key topics included tracking hotel and travel agency numbers, as well as tourist arrivals and their demographics through modern technology, artificial intelligence, and automated data analysis.

Both parties emphasized the importance of facilitating access to tourism data and promoting exchange between member states. Some of this data will be made public to support decision-making and global sustainable development in the sector.

The talks also covered cooperation in training and capacity building for tourism sector workers to improve efficiency according to international best practices.

Following the meeting, Fathy accompanied Al-Nowais on a tour of the archaeological replicas museum at the Egyptian pavilion. Al-Nowais expressed her admiration for the exhibits, noting their role in showcasing the richness of Egyptian civilization and promoting the country's cultural assets to exhibition visitors.
