Egypt, Sudan move toward industrial integration

Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, met with Mahasen Ali Yaqoub, Sudan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, to chart a roadmap for bilateral industrial and commercial integration.

The high-level meeting, attended by Sudanese Ambassador Emad El-Din Adawy, focused on transforming historical ties into strategic economic partnerships that leverage Sudan's raw materials and Egypt’s industrial expertise.

Minister Al-Wazir outlined Egypt's vision for creating joint industrial projects on Sudanese soil. The proposed initiatives aim to transition from exporting raw materials to manufacturing high-value products, specifically targeting three key sectors:

Livestock and Leather: Establishing automated slaughterhouses and advanced tanneries in Sudan, modeled after Egypt’s successful ventures in Chad and Tanzania.

Pharmaceuticals: Coordinating with Egypt’s Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industries to explore the establishment of specialized veterinary medicine factories within Sudan.

Agriculture and Fertilizers: Partnering with the Fertilizer Industry Chamber to conduct feasibility studies for fertilizer plants in Sudan to bolster regional agricultural development.

Egypt has pledged to place its industrial infrastructure at the service of the Sudanese side. The Minister offered comprehensive support through several Egyptian agencies:

Productivity and Vocational Training Department (PVTD): To transfer expertise in vocational training and human resource qualification.

Technology Centers: To provide technical assistance throughout various stages of the manufacturing process.

Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality: To offer training programs built on international standards.

To further bridge the commercial gap, the Ministry proposed dedicating permanent exhibition spaces for Sudanese products and ideas within Egyptian trade fairs, providing Sudanese businesses with direct access to regional investors.

Minister Mahasen Ali Yaqoub expressed Sudan’s keen interest in localizing Egypt’s recent industrial and transport successes. She emphasized that Sudan is ready to provide all necessary incentives and facilities to attract Egyptian manufacturers.

"Our goal is to utilize Sudan's natural resources through strategic partnerships that secure sustainable development and prosperity for both nations," the Sudanese Minister stated.
