The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to supply the Deir Ammar power plant in Lebanon with natural gas for electricity generation. The signing took place at the headquarters of the Lebanese Council of Ministers.

Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Joe Saddi, Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water, signed the MoU in Beirut. The signing was attended by Nawaf Salam, Prime Minister of Lebanon. The ceremony was also attended by Alaa Moussa, Ambassador of Egypt to Lebanon, Engineer Mahmoud Abdel Hamid, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Dr Mohamed El Bagoury, Supervisor of the Central Administration for Legal Affairs at the ministry, and several senior officials from the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water.

Badawi affirmed that the MoU builds on the outcomes of the recent important visit to Lebanon by Dr Moustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt.

The minister explained that Egypt is fulfilling its role in supplying Lebanon with natural gas to support energy security across Arab countries. He noted that Egypt relies on an advanced and robust infrastructure in the production, transportation, and export of natural gas.
