PM orders customs staff increase at Cairo airport to speed up travel

Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly conducted an extensive inspection of Cairo International Airport on Saturday immediately upon his return from Beirut, ordering staff increases to expedite customs procedures and reviewing plans to expand the national fleet to 97 aircraft by 2031.

Accompanied by Civil Aviation Minister Dr. Sameh El Hefny, the Prime Minister toured Terminals 2 and 3 to monitor service quality and infrastructure upgrades. Madbouly emphasized that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has issued strict instructions to implement advanced navigation and ground operation systems to ensure the airport meets global smart-city standards.

During his tour of Terminal 3, Madbouly inspected the arrival halls, e-passport counters, and the new digital limousine service. He specifically visited the customs zone, where he directed officials to deploy more personnel to reduce wait times for travelers.

In Terminal 2, the tour included: Transit Facilities: A review of the "Plaza Premium" lounge and the transit hotel operated by the Cairo Airport Company.

Large Aircraft Readiness: Inspection of waiting areas specifically equipped for Airbus A380 superjumbo jets.

Operations Center: A visit to the airport’s "nerve center," which coordinates flight movements, security, and crisis management around the clock.

Following the tour, Minister El Hefny presented a strategic vision to revitalize EgyptAir, which has faced significant headwinds from regional instability and the pandemic.

Key highlights of the development plan include: Fleet Growth: Acquiring 34 new high-efficiency aircraft to bring the total fleet to 97 by the 2030/2031 fiscal year.

Cabin Upgrades: Modernizing the interior cabins of 19 existing aircraft.

Network Expansion: Launching new routes and increasing flight frequencies to support Egypt’s goal of boosting tourism numbers.

Madbouly stressed that modernizing the aviation sector is vital for international competitiveness and aligns with the state's broader economic growth targets.
