Egypt, Italy seek to regulate labor, training

Labor Minister Mohamed Gobran arrived in Italy on Wednesday for a two-day official visit aimed at opening new markets for Egyptian technical labor and curbing irregular migration through official channels.

The Minister was received by Bassam Rady, Egypt’s Ambassador to Rome, who stated that the visit focuses on enhancing bilateral cooperation in employment, vocational training, and labor mobility across all sectors.

Ambassador Rady noted that the mission is part of Egypt's strategy to legalize the migration of its workforce through "legitimate channels and regular mechanisms." Key objectives include:

European Standards: Ensuring Egyptian youth are trained to meet high-level European professional requirements.

Governmental Talks: A bilateral meeting is scheduled with Italy’s Minister of Labor and Social Policies to facilitate the organized transfer of workers.

Private Sector Engagement: Meetings with Italian recruitment firms and the Italian Association of Small and Medium Industries.

The visit will extend to Milan, the capital of the industrial Lombardy region. The delegation plans to visit specialized institutes for construction and building trades to study training mechanisms and explore the recruitment of skilled Egyptian workers for Italy’s infrastructure sector. The initiative aims to match Egypt’s surplus of young labor with the specific vocational needs of the Italian market, ensuring a mutually beneficial and regulated economic partnership.
