Government reviews development proposals for Citadel, Zabbaleen areas

Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly held a meeting today to review proposals for developing the area surrounding the Citadel and the Zabbaleen area in Manshiyat Nasser, Cairo.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment, and Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the government continues its efforts to develop informal areas across the country, particularly in Cairo. These efforts follow the state’s approach in completing the development of previously unsafe areas, improving residents’ daily living conditions, and providing a decent standard of living for families.

The Minister of Local Development highlighted the government’s focus on closely monitoring the measures taken by governorates to develop non-urban areas, especially in Cairo, aiming to restore the urban and aesthetic appearance of key streets and neighborhoods, and eliminate negative or irregular phenomena.

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber presented an overview of the Citadel and Zabbaleen areas in Manshiyat Nasser. The area is bordered to the north by the Autostrad Road, to the south by Mokattam residential area, to the east by the Ring Road and Mokattam Axis, and to the west by the internal residential blocks of Manshiyat Nasser.

Dr. Saber stated that approximately 100,000 people work in waste sorting and collection in Manshiyat Nasser, in addition to 15,000 other workers. Cairo produces 24,000 tons of waste annually, of which 8,000 tons are collected and recycled in the Zabbaleen area.

The Governor also presented several development proposals. The Prime Minister directed that a comprehensive study be prepared covering all engineering and technical aspects for review in a dedicated future meeting.
