Suez Canal sees 5.2% jump in ships transiting since July

Suez Canal navigation rates improved following the return of stability to the Red Sea region. This was reflected in a 5.2% increase in the number of vessels transiting the Canal from the beginning of July 2025 to the present day, reaching 5,874 ships with a net tonnage of 247.2 million tons. This compares to 5,584 vessels and 216.0 million tons in the same period last year.

The increase contributed to a rise in revenues, which hit $1.97 billion since July 2025, up from $1.68 billion in the corresponding period last year.

The Cabinet's Media Center noted that these figures drew praise from Ivana Vladkova Hollar, head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Egypt. Hollar affirmed the Canal's strategic importance to global trade and commended its crisis management capabilities and flexible handling of challenges through improved service efficiency and continuous client communication. She stressed that these efforts support the sustainability of navigation and the restoration of stability in the Red Sea.
