SCZONE launches $70m Chinese glassware factory in Sokhna

The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Wednesday held a cornerstone laying ceremony for a new factory owned by Chinese glassware company Xin Min Glass.

The facility is located within the "Sokhna 360" integrated industrial city, developed by ElSwedy Industrial Development within the Sokhna industrial zone. The ceremony was attended by Suez Governor Major General Tarek El-Shazly and SCZONE officials.

Total investment of the project exceeds $70 million upon completion of three phases. The first phase will start with over $30 million on 163,000 square meters. The production capacity aims to produce over 516 million pieces annually, including glassware, Pyrex products, and tableware.

The project contract was signed weeks ago, with the first phase scheduled to begin operations in July 2026. It is expected to create more than 3,000 direct jobs.

The project is considered a key industrial addition, particularly in the transformational and glass sectors, aligning with SCZONE's efforts to increase high value-added industrial production for local market service and export to regional and international markets.
