Leoni opens automotive wiring harness factory in Badr City

Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly inaugurated the new factory of German automotive wiring systems giant Leoni in Badr City (Al-Rubiki Axis), accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir.

The facility, known as "Leoni Badr 4," spans 14,000 square meters and is part of the company's expansion plan to increase its production capacity in Egypt.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the automotive industry is a top national priority and that the government is working to localize the sector, attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and grow high-value manufacturing, especially in auto components. He stated that the government's efforts align with the national automotive development program, which aims to deepen local content and build a strong manufacturing base for sustainable transport.

Madbouly asserted that Egypt has become a global hub for wiring harness manufacturing, hosting major specialized companies that produce components for both traditional and electric vehicles, underscoring global confidence in the Egyptian economy and workforce.

Leoni Egypt Chairman Sherif El-Desouky noted that Leoni Germany is one of the world's largest automotive wiring producers, with operations in 30 countries. Leoni Egypt, a direct subsidiary, operates out of three industrial zones (Nasr City, Badr City, and Assiut) under the Free Zones system.

He noted that Leoni Egypt began operations in 1998, celebrating its 27th anniversary in the Egyptian market this year. The company currently operates 15 factories at full production capacity to serve major automotive manufacturers globally. Its current production capacity is 45,000 wiring harnesses daily (on three shifts). The workforce is nearly 6,000 engineers, technicians, and workers. The exports in 2024 were €240 million (ranked second in exports among free zones).

El-Desouky also announced that the company signed a new contract on November 4 to purchase a 92,000 square meter plot from the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) to establish a new industrial complex, further cementing its role in the global automotive supply chain.

Dr. Anis Kamoun, CEO of Operations for Leoni Germany, expressed commitment to long-term investment in Egypt, stating the new facility reflects Leoni's dedication to innovation and operational excellence. He credited the company’s success to the passion, professionalism, and commitment of its Egyptian staff.

Attendees at the inauguration included GAFI CEO Hossam Heiba and German economic attaché Miguel Horbach.
