Awad reviews governorates’ local revenue, development plans

Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, held a meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital with senior officials from the Ministries of Local Development, Environment, and Finance. The meeting followed up on the Prime Minister’s directives from a late-October meeting with the Ministers of Local Development and Finance, which reviewed shared issues across all governorates. The aim was to support local development plans, remove obstacles, and advance public service projects to improve citizens’ lives and meet urgent needs for essential services.

Dr. Awad reviewed financial matters related to services provided by the governorates, focusing on developing local revenue resources. She emphasized the Ministry’s plans, coordinated with the governorates, to maximize the use of available resources and comparative advantages in each governorate. The goal is to enhance local revenues, unify service regulations, and ensure that each governorate receives its legal share.

The Minister stressed the Ministry’s commitment to working with the Ministry of Finance to overcome challenges hindering local revenue development. This collaboration aims to strengthen the governorates’ capacity to provide the services citizens need and improve daily life.

Awad affirmed that supporting governorates in implementing integrated local development projects, fostering local economic growth, and promoting decentralization principles remains a top priority. This approach ensures genuine sustainable development with a direct impact on citizens’ lives.

She added that the Ministry regularly monitors governorates’ plans to develop local revenues and proposed activities to maximize resource use and advantages. Mechanisms for addressing challenges facing economic activities and projects are also reviewed to further strengthen local resources.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to hold a follow-up session next week at the Ministry of Finance to review the discussed files.
