Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Engineer Sherif El Sherbiny inspected the final works of the “Fustat Hills Gardens” project. The 500 acre development is located in Old Cairo, adjacent to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Ain Al Sira Lake, the Religious Complex, and the Amr Ibn Al Aas Mosque. The Minister was accompanied by Major General Engineer Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, along with officials from the Ministry of Housing and the implementing companies.

El Sherbiny toured the project components, starting with the Investment Zone and the Arena Project. The Investment Zone covers 131 thousand square meters overlooking Ain El Hayat Lake. It includes 12 restaurants, 4 shopping malls, and 4 parking garages. The area also features spaces capable of hosting large official events, including a Roman theatre, a water fountain, and landscaping works. The tour also covered the Adventure Zone which includes service buildings, lakes, and planted areas.

The Minister proceeded to review progress in the Cultural Zone and the Riverfront Area. The Cultural Zone is located opposite the main entrance to Fustat Hills on Salah Salem Road. It features a main axis linked to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and is surrounded by plazas that include cultural activities, restaurants, and services. Celebrations are planned to be held throughout the year. The main entrance includes 4 restaurants and cafés with a built up area of 216 square meters, 3 fountains, and infrastructure and landscaping works extending over 26,864 square meters.

He also inspected the Adventure Zone which includes a playground, 3 service buildings, a 505 square meter children’s building, a 167 square meter service building, a 167 square meter restroom building, and 97,238 square meters of utilities and landscaping.

The Minister toured the Hills and Valley Area which consists of three hills of varying heights connected by a waterway. A series of terraces extends from the river edge to the hilltops, providing panoramic views of the project, the surrounding area, the Citadel of Saladin, and the Pyramids. The area includes Qasaba Hill built over 13 thousand square meters, featuring a tourist hotel, service buildings, parking, an artificial lake, terraces, seating areas overlooking the waterfall, a pedestrian bridge, a cafeteria, and a waterfall. Excavation Hill is under development to become a cultural archaeological destination, revealing the remains of the ancient city of Fustat over an area of about 47 acres. A one kilometre walkway at a height of 1.5 metres above the excavations is being developed to connect the site to the service buildings. Heritage Gardens Hill features terraces, visitor buildings, restaurants, and a wooden platform overlooking the lake.
