PM celebrates GEM opening with private sector partners

Dr. Moustafa Madbouly expressed his happiness and pride in this unique and exceptional event taking place in Egypt, the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum GEM.

Madbouly said during a press conference held today, Saturday, at the GEM with private sector partners and businessmen involved in the museum project that the construction of the project had faced a period of suspension due to the circumstances Egypt experienced starting in 2011. The project resumed following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directive to complete it to the highest standard and in a manner that showcases Egypt’s civilizational heritage.

He extended his thanks and appreciation to national private sector figures who contributed alongside the state in organizing the opening ceremony.

Madbouly added that this dream, which had been in minds and imagination for years, is now realized. He highlighted that the inauguration of this global landmark is a gift to the world from a country whose history spans over 7,000 years, a nation that embodies a blend of all civilizations that have shaped human history. Today is a day of pride and honor for him as Prime Minister, witnessing this celebration.

He recalled that the idea of establishing this magnificent edifice dates back approximately 30 years. At that time, the Egyptian state initiated preliminary procedures through numerous technical studies, followed by an international competition to select a specific design for the museum. Implementation began, but the project faced a period of suspension due to the circumstances Egypt faced starting in 2011. Completion resumed following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directive to finalize the project to the highest standard and present Egypt’s civilizational image.

Madbouly emphasized that when work resumed, only a small portion of the project had been completed on the ground. The majority of construction, finishing, and preparation of this world-class landmark took place over the past seven to eight years. He praised all contributors to this global project, from the idea initiators to all involved in its execution, culminating in today’s opening and presenting Egypt once again to the world as a symbol of its ancient and great civilization.

Dr. Madbouly concluded by thanking the national private sector leaders who contributed to the success of the opening ceremony, naming all participants for their contributions: Hisham Talaat Moustafa, Chairman of Talaat Moustafa Group for Development; Engineer Mohamed Mansour, Chairman of Mansour Group and MAN Capital Investment Company; Engineer Ahmed Ezz, Chairman of Ezz Steel Group; Engineer Hassan Allam, head of Hassan Allam Holding Company; Mohamed El-Etreby, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Egypt, representing the consortium of banks participating in the event; and Engineer Khaled Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company.

The Prime Minister stressed that their participation exemplifies the partnership between the state and the private sector in implementing numerous national projects and initiatives in Egypt. He renewed his gratitude and added that tonight’s celebration brings joy to all Egyptians on this historic and exceptional day. Prayers are offered that the future will be filled with prosperity and happiness for this great nation.
