The market features both permanent stalls and mobile vendors
offering a diverse range of basic commodities, including meat, poultry, fish,
vegetables, fruits, dry groceries, and cleaning products. Participants include
subsidiaries of the Food Industries Holding Company, private sector exhibitors,
and outlets run by recent graduates.
Farouk emphasized the ministry's commitment to expanding the
"one-day market" initiative, which he said has "proven
successful" in its initial two phases by stabilizing markets and prices,
reducing intermediaries, and offering high-quality goods at fair prices. This,
he added, supports state efforts to enhance food security and ease financial
burdens on citizens.
The "one-day market" initiative is a key tool for
the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade to increase the availability and
supply of goods across governorates, helping to balance prices and ensure
product access in areas most in need. These initiatives are implemented in
cooperation with the Ministry of Local Development and governors, with ongoing
coordination to regularly establish these markets in various locations,
enhancing direct access to essential goods and supporting the participation of
small businesses and youth in the supply and distribution system.
Governor Saber expressed his satisfaction with the market's
opening in Al-Gamaleya, highlighting Cairo Governorate's dedication to
supporting such initiatives, which "contribute to improving living
standards and meeting citizens' needs easily and conveniently."
The opening saw a significant turnout from residents who praised the quality and variety of products, calling for the expansion of the initiative to more districts across Cairo.
