Forbes: Dr. El-Sobky among Mideast's top 10 healthcare leaders

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH), has been named one of the "Top 10 Government Leaders in the Middle East Healthcare Sector 2025" by Forbes Middle East. This recognition highlights his pivotal role in developing and modernizing Egypt's health system through a comprehensive reform model centered on digital transformation, sustainability, and institutional innovation.

Forbes Middle East praised the GAH, calling it an inspiring regional model for health reform and an example of determined political will to improve citizens' lives. Egypt's achievements were cited as a true success story in building a comprehensive, sustainable health system that prioritizes human well-being.

The GAH clarified that support from the political leadership has been, and remains, the main driver for achieving universal health coverage. This support enabled the Authority to achieve unprecedented success in the first phase of the Universal Health Insurance System, and will similarly ensure confident progress towards completing the second phase.

Forbes Middle East praised the GAH's success in building a distinctive medical tourism model through the "In Egypt, We Care For You" initiative. The initiative has enhanced Egypt's position on the regional and international medical tourism map, with the Authority providing advanced medical services to over 30,000 international patients from 120 countries, generating revenues exceeding $5 million.

Forbes Middle East further highlighted that the GAH continued to boost digital transformation as one of the pillars of success for building a smart and sustainable health system. The Authority has carried out over 900,000 surgeries in its health facilities according to global standards, including 35% advanced, highly skilled, and specialized procedures, reflecting the significant development in the capacity of the Egyptian healthcare system.

Forbes Middle East also mentioned that the GAH launched an international twinning programme with France, Switzerland, Japan, and Germany as a strategic step aimed at transferring and localizing advanced medical expertise and boosting Egypt’s competitiveness in modern medicine and specialized healthcare.

Forbes Middle East concluded by commending the GAH for its leading role in establishing a smart, sustainable health system that serves as a model for the Middle East.
