Ministry of Supply monitors markets after fuel price increase

Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, chaired today a meeting of the Central Operations Room at the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting followed up on the implementation of newly adjusted petroleum product prices and reviewed field reports submitted by the directorates of supply and internal trade across all governorates. The aim was to ensure market stability and the availability of essential goods and products for citizens.

Major General Walid Abu El-Magd, Deputy Minister of Supply and Internal Trade; Hossam El-Garahy, Assistant Minister for Oversight Affairs; Ahmed Kamal, Assistant Minister and Official Spokesman for the Ministry; Sara El-Azzazy, Head of the Central Administration for the Minister’s Office; and Magdy Abdel Halim, Head of the Central Administration for Distribution, participated in the meeting.

Dr. Farouk confirmed that the Central Operations Room continues to operate for a second day on a 24-hour basis, coordinating with sub-operations rooms at the supply directorates in the governorates. He stated that the ministry is actively monitoring the situation on the ground and responding immediately to any reports or complaints from citizens.

The minister indicated that field reports from the directorates point to stable markets and sufficient availability of basic commodities, with no observed unjustified price increases. He emphasized that the ministry’s inspection teams have been deployed in the field since the early hours of the application of the new prices to guarantee full compliance and prevent any attempts to exploit citizens.

He stressed that oversight efforts extend beyond fuel stations and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) depots to include markets and commercial outlets, in order to ensure that the fuel-price adjustment is not used as a pretext to raise the prices of food items or other products. He added that the ministry will not tolerate violations and that immediate, deterrent legal action will be taken against any entity found involved in monopolistic practices or manipulation of citizen rights.

The minister directed full coordination with all relevant authorities to maintain the proper circulation of petroleum products and ensure their continuous supply to markets, while intensifying inspection campaigns during the coming period.

Farouk concluded by reaffirming that the ministry remains on live monitoring of the situation nationwide. He noted that supply-control teams are operating around the clock, in coordination with the Central Operations Room, to preserve market stability, guarantee the availability of goods, and protect citizens’ rights.
