Fathy outlined the ministry’s vision, mission and current
strategy, which seeks to position Egypt as a premier global destination by
showcasing its diverse tourism offerings including cultural, coastal,
spiritual, desert and adventure. He stressed that the strategy also aims to
achieve tourism economic sustainability, ensuring long-term returns that
benefit the environment and local communities around tourist and archaeological
sites.
The minister highlighted Egypt’s commitment to attracting
new tourism investments, noting that an “Investment Opportunities Bank” will
soon be launched to create a unified map of available projects and promote them
domestically and internationally, driving sustainable tourism growth.
The discussions focused on avenues of cooperation in tourism
and hospitality, particularly in light of the association’s efforts to build
human capacity and develop workforce skills in the hospitality sector. The
meeting also explored mechanisms for enhancing investment and improving the
visitor experience in Alexandria.
The participants reviewed proposals to strengthen
Alexandria’s global tourism appeal and link it more closely with the North
Coast, with emphasis on expanding yacht tourism and related activities,
alongside leveraging Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE)
tourism.
The talks further addressed cooperation on implementing
training programs in hospitality, incentives and conferences, with the option
of launching some through the ministry’s recently introduced digital training
platform EGYTAP.
Both sides agreed to hold an expanded meeting soon, in
coordination with the Governor of Alexandria, to discuss investment
opportunities in the governorate and strategies to better promote them,
ensuring greater shares of inbound tourism.
Hanno invited the minister at the conclusion of the meeting to
be guest of honor at the association’s “Tourism Salon” to present the
ministry’s strategy and future outlook, and to exchange ideas on advancing
Egypt’s tourism sector.
