JICA praises 70 years of partnership with Egypt

Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly met today, Thursday, with the head of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss strengthening cooperation, according to an official statement.

Madbouly, who is representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, held talks with JICA President Akihiko Tanaka.

Attending the meeting were Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Education Mohamed Abdel Latif, and Egypt's Ambassador to Japan Mohamed Abu Bakr.

Madbouly lauded the strong relationship between Egypt and Japan, highlighting their cooperation in health, culture, infrastructure, transport, and education. He thanked Japan for its support for Egypt's development and expressed hope that Tanaka would attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The Prime Minister pointed to the establishment of 69 Japanese schools in Egypt as a major success and called for further partnerships in technical education. He also noted Egypt’s interest in increasing Japanese investments, particularly in new and renewable energy and civil aviation.

For her part, Minister Al-Mashat said Egypt wants to expand its cooperation with JICA into other African nations through a trilateral framework. She also emphasized increasing collaboration in new and renewable energy, following President El-Sisi's directives.

Tanaka praised Egypt's efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and expressed regret over the worsening humanitarian situation. He mentioned JICA's efforts to provide aid to Gaza and his hope for a swift ceasefire.

He also presented Madbouly with a booklet commemorating 70 years of cooperation between Egypt and JICA.

Tanaka concluded by praising the positive development of relations between the two countries, citing the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Cairo Metro's fourth line as examples of their joint projects. He affirmed that Egypt is a vital partner for JICA due to the scale and variety of projects it implements in the country.
