Japan urges companies to partner with Egyptian military firms

Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah El-Din Moustafa, met with Japanese Ambassador Iwao Fumio and a delegation at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to discuss joint cooperation in various manufacturing sectors.

Moustafa welcomed the ambassador, stating that the meeting was in line with presidential directives to leverage and localize global expertise in manufacturing. This supports sustainable development strategies by relying on local manufacturing capabilities, Egyptian workers, and international quality standards. He emphasized that the ministry's companies and units possess high-level manufacturing, technological, and technical capabilities.

The Minister underscored the ministry's interest in enhancing industrial and technological cooperation with Japan and localizing modern manufacturing technologies in its affiliated companies. He highlighted that such collaboration with various international companies is crucial given current global changes, which necessitate relying on local potential.

He added that numerous successful manufacturing partnerships already exist between the ministry and Japan, citing a collaboration with the Japanese company Mizuho to produce a water-from-air extraction device. This device is manufactured at the Helwan Company for Metal Appliances (Factory 360) and has a local component ratio exceeding 70%. Mjnister Moustafa noted that the device was developed over a year and underwent various tests, proving its functionality and producing water that meets drinking water standards set by the Ministry of Health and Population's central laboratories. He affirmed the ministry's readiness to cooperate with private sector companies—both Egyptian and international—to produce new goods and develop existing products.

Moustafa also pointed out the importance of the partnership between Japanese expertise and the ministry's manufacturing, human, and technical capabilities to boost national production and improve the quality of local industries. He stressed that this cooperation aligns with the ministry's strategy to utilize leading Japanese technologies and diverse expertise to enhance and develop local industries in line with sustainable development goals.

For his part, Ambassador Fumio expressed his country's commitment to supporting this partnership as part of the strong Egyptian-Japanese relationship. He voiced his anticipation for more successes in joint projects that meet both sides' aspirations. He also praised the Ministry of Military Production's role as a cornerstone of Egypt's military manufacturing and a key industrial arm of the state, noting its success in using surplus production capacity for civilian goods and exports.

The ambassador confirmed his desire for continuous coordination between the ministry and the embassy to support bilateral economic and trade relations. He said he would work to overcome any challenges and enhance cooperation between companies from both countries, building on recent improvements in economic ties and the strong relationship between the Egyptian and Japanese peoples. This, he noted, provides a strong impetus for attracting more Japanese investment. He added that he would encourage Japanese investors and businesspeople to leverage the potential of the Ministry of Military Production's companies and units to achieve further joint successes.
