Housing Minister inspects 26th of July Corridor development

Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, on Saturday inspected ongoing development work on the 26th of July Corridor spanning 6th of October City and Sheikh Zayed City.

El-Sherbiny's inspection focused on the widening of the existing road within the central island beneath the Monorail, extending from its intersection with the Cairo/Alexandria Desert Road to its junction with the Al-Wahat Road. He urged an acceleration of the work, emphasizing site coordination, maintenance of green spaces, and the installation of more directional signs to ease traffic flow.

The Minister stressed the importance of applying the latest traffic safety and security standards to ensure peak operational efficiency while minimizing disruptions during the project. He noted the corridor's development is part of the ministry's broader efforts to improve infrastructure and the road network.

This development is a continuation of the West Cairo Monorail project, overseen by the National Authority for Tunnels. The aim is to boost the road's capacity by increasing traffic lanes, thereby improving flow and reducing congestion. The plan also includes upgrading the asphalt quality and enhancing traffic guidance and warnings for increased safety, including safe pedestrian crossings.

Project greenery has been chosen for its aesthetic appeal, maximum height, and low water consumption, ensuring it complements the national October Monorail project and the urban landscape of both cities.

El-Sherbiny also reviewed a lineup of 67 operational and maintenance vehicles belonging to the 6th of October City Agency, including ram cars, compactors, fountain cars, flood vehicles, suction cars, agricultural irrigation vehicles, tractors and loaders. He called for regular maintenance and strict adherence to safety protocols for all equipment, urging swift response to any emergencies.
