Egypt, Chinese firm discuss developing Nile cruise tourism

Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, met with Peng Jianhu, Chairman of the Board of Gaund Holding, at the Ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. Gaund Holding is a leading global company specializing in the construction, operation, and management of river and sea cruise ships. The two sides explored opportunities for joint cooperation to develop Nile cruise tourism in Egypt.

The meeting was also attended by Hossam El-Shaer, Chairman of the Egyptian Federation of Tourism Chambers; Mohamed Amer, Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops, and Tourism Activities; and Ahmed Nabil, Assistant Minister for Aviation and Follow-up Affairs.

The Minister welcomed the Chinese delegation and congratulated them on the establishment of their company in Egypt. He emphasized the strategic importance of Nile tourism, which the Ministry is working to enhance as part of its broader strategy to showcase the diversity of tourism types and offerings in Egypt, positioning the country as a top global destination in terms of variety.

He also underscored the significance of the Chinese market for Egyptian tourism, citing the notable rise in Chinese tourist arrivals over the past year, with expectations for continued growth in the near future.

Jianhu outlined the company’s operations and future plans in Egypt, expressing Gaund Holding’s ambition to build a long-term strategic partnership for developing Nile tourism. This includes the construction and operation of several environmentally friendly floating hotels on the Nile, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, drawing on the company’s global expertise. He added that preparations are already underway for the launch of the first floating hotel in Egypt, with plans to introduce five hotels in the initial phase.

The Minister invited the company to submit a comprehensive study detailing its vision and implementation plan for Nile tourism development, which will be reviewed by the Ministry. He affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate within a framework that supports shared goals and promotes the growth of this promising tourism sector.
