Civil Aviation Ministry declares airspace safe amid regional tensions

The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced today, Friday, that despite ongoing regional events and escalating tensions, Egyptian airspace remains safe and fully operational. Regular flight movements are adhering to the highest international air safety standards.

The Ministry stated that its main operations center at Cairo International Airport is monitoring developments around the clock, in full coordination with civil aviation authorities in neighboring countries. This follows temporary airspace closures announced by some neighboring countries due to the current regional situation.

The Ministry added that, in this context, the highest state of readiness has been declared at Cairo International Airport and all other Egyptian airports. This proactive measure anticipates the potential arrival of transit aircraft that may need to alter their flight paths and make emergency landings due to regional developments. Full readiness to provide necessary technical and logistical support for all affected flights has been confirmed.

Illustrating this preparedness, Cairo International Airport recently received nine foreign airline aircraft in quick succession for refueling. These aircraft had modified their routes due to the closure of some neighboring airspaces. All aircraft departed in record time after receiving the necessary technical and logistical support to safely continue their journeys.

In light of these developments, EgyptAir announced the cancellation of three flights to Baghdad, Amman, and Beirut, pending the reopening of those countries' airspaces.

To closely monitor the situation and ensure the smooth flow of work and regular flight operations, Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, Minister of Civil Aviation, visited the operations center at Cairo International Airport, the EgyptAir Integrated Operations Control Center (IOCC), and the air traffic control tower.
