This meeting aimed to develop a roadmap for establishing an integrated industrial complex for the production of all components and supplies for bridges and tunnels. This project falls within the framework of the state's plan to localize various industries, with the aim of transforming Egypt into a regional industrial hub, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Nahed Youssef, Head of the General Authority for Industrial Development, and a number of leaders from the Ministries of Industry and Transport. During the meeting, the current projects of the German company Maurer and its production in Egypt were reviewed in cooperation with the Egyptian company Samco. Both companies produce the latest types of bridge piers in Egypt according to the highest international quality standards.
Future plans to expand their production facilities in Egypt through joint cooperation were also reviewed, especially in light of the state's implementation of a number of major national projects, such as the high-speed electric train, bridges, and giant tunnels that utilize these products.
It was also emphasized that the German company will continue to train Egyptian engineers and workers on the latest manufacturing technologies for these components, in addition to increasing the percentage of local components in the bridge piles currently produced—which stands at 75%—to achieve full manufacturing within Egypt. Furthermore, the planned complex will include the production of other components related to this sector, such as bridge joints and other supplies. This will meet the needs of the local market and open up export opportunities to African and Middle Eastern countries, while transferring advanced industrial expertise and technologies to Egypt.
During the meeting, the Minister directed the formation of a technical committee comprising specialized representatives from the General Authority for Industrial Development, the Roads and Bridges Authority, and Samco to develop a roadmap for implementing this massive project. This committee will include a comprehensive timeline for the construction and operation phases, and will identify training needs to qualify the necessary human resources. He emphasized that the project is receiving significant attention from the Egyptian government as part of its efforts to localize various industries and maximize the role of the private sector in the industrial and transportation sectors.
The Maurer delegation expressed their pride in working in the Egyptian market, praising the remarkable development in infrastructure and the stimulating investment environment. They also emphasized that the Egyptian government has succeeded in facilitating procedures and providing the necessary incentives, making the Egyptian market an attractive destination for foreign investment. They expressed their pride in participating in strategic projects that contribute to strengthening national manufacturing capabilities and localizing advanced technology, commending the skill and competence of Egyptian engineers and workers in keeping pace with the latest global manufacturing technologies.
