Gov’t: Suez Canal transit fees to remain in foreign currencies

The Media Center of the Council of Ministers published a video on its social media platforms to clarify the truth about rumors regarding the collection of Suez Canal vessel transit fees in Egyptian pounds.

The video clarified that no such decisions have been issued and refuted the circulated claims as baseless. It affirmed that vessel transit fees continue to be collected in foreign currencies, consistent with global practice and without any changes to the existing system.

The Media Center of the Council of Ministers explained that adhering to this system reflects the state's commitment to preserving foreign currency resources. It also underscores the international maritime community's trust in the Suez Canal's strategic global importance.

The Media Center specified the approved foreign currencies for Suez Canal transit fees: US Dollar, British Pound Sterling, Euro, Japanese Yen, Canadian Dollar, Swedish Krona, Danish Krone, Norwegian Krone, Swiss Franc, and Chinese Yuan.
