Egypt, World Bank join forces for pre-university education development

Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, discussed with Dr. Fadia Saadah, the Regional Director for Human Development in the Middle East and North Africa region at the World Bank, and the accompanying delegation, concerning avenues for strengthening mutual cooperation and exploring new horizons in the field of pre-university education.

During the meeting, the Minister outlined the Ministry's recent efforts to tackle key educational challenges: student overcrowding, teacher shortages, and student absenteeism. He also mentioned the planned restructuring of secondary education to align with international standards, allowing for quality instruction with accredited hours for core subjects.

He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to the continuous development of the educational system across its various aspects, in addition to the Ministry's intention to introduce programming principles into the curricula to keep pace with global developments in educational systems.

On her part, Dr. Saadah affirmed the World Bank's support for the Ministry of Education and Technical Education through collaborative projects and joint programs, expressing her aspiration to build upon the fruitful partnership and provide further support for the implementation of the Ministry's strategic plan.

She commended Egypt's attention to the human development portfolio and its keenness to place it at the core of its priorities as a foundation for building a productive society. She extended her gratitude to the Minister of Education for his pioneering efforts in developing the educational system and affirmed the World Bank's readiness to provide technical assistance and sustain the strategic partnership with the Ministry in this domain.

The meeting also addressed means of enhancing cooperation between the Ministry and the Bank in areas related to education development project, methods for improving reading, writing, and arithmetic skills among basic education students, the professional development of teachers, and the completion of agreements concluded between the two parties.
