The ministry stated in a statement that, in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, regarding the need to prepare the first phase of the BRT project, extending from the Police Academy station to the intersection of the Ring Road and Alexandria Agricultural Road.
This phase includes 14 stations for operation during the next phase:
Adly Mansour Station, two surface stations at a pedestrian bridge (Bahtim and
the Police Academy), and 11 surface stations at a pedestrian tunnel (Alexandria
Agricultural, Sharqia, Shubra, Banha, Mostorod, El-Khosoos, El-Marg, El-Qalag,
Zakat Foundation, Lieutenant General Ibrahim El-Orabi, El-Salam, and Suez Road)
. The General Authority for Roads and Bridges has begun operating 10 buses on
the first phase's route. This is to train bus drivers on the route, station
stops, and planned bus turnaround times in order to provide the highest level
of service to passengers.
Minister El-Wazir has inspected the readiness of the first phase for operation and has defined the work system and how to connect the stations and stops under the Ring Road, which serve people. He also reviewed how passengers can reach the stations, whether via pedestrian bridges or tunnels, or even by taking the BRT. He also checked the readiness of waiting areas inside the stations, methods of obtaining tickets and passing through the electronic bus gates. He confirmed that during the first and second phases of the project, 100 electric buses will be operated, and that these buses are locally produced in Egypt.
