Al Wazir, French Ambassador discuss strengthening rail and metro partnerships

Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, met with French Ambassador to Cairo, Eric Chevallier, and senior officials from the French Ministry of Economy to review the latest developments in joint transport projects between Egypt and France.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister highlighted the strong and historic relations between Egypt and France, praising the fruitful cooperation in implementing major transport projects. He stressed Egypt’s commitment to the highest standards of efficiency and discipline across all transport sectors.

The discussions covered several strategic areas:

Industrial cooperation: Plans to establish a large industrial complex in Borg El-Arab in partnership with Alstom, covering 40 acres, to produce electrical systems, railway components, and all types of rolling stock.

Metro Line 6 project: Extending from Khosous to New Maadi, with a second phase reaching New Cairo. The line will connect with Egypt’s high-speed rail at Mohamed Naguib Station and with the East Nile Monorail at El-Narges Station on South 90 Street.

Human capital development: Expanding vocational training and technical education programs to prepare a new generation of specialists capable of managing, operating, and maintaining modern transport systems in line with international standards.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the implementation of these projects according to the agreed timetable. They emphasized that these initiatives will modernize Egypt’s urban transport system, enhance efficiency and sustainability, and attract further French investment into the Egyptian market.

For his part, Ambassador Chevallier expressed France’s appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Transport, stressing his government’s keenness to support vocational training and railway industry localization. Magali Cesana, Head of Bilateral Affairs and Corporate Internationalization at the French Treasury, highlighted France’s long-standing partnership with Egypt in railway projects since 1984, noting that such initiatives will encourage more French companies to invest in Egypt and contribute to the localization of railway manufacturing.
