The agreement, spanning 2026-2029, falls under the umbrella of Egypt’s National Platform for Green Projects, the "NWFE" program, specifically targeting the Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy. It aims to provide integrated technological solutions for climate-resilient agriculture, benefiting smallholder farmers and enhancing rural sustainability.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Rania
Al-Mashat signed the MoU alongside Sebastian Riez, CEO of Schneider Electric
for Northeast Africa and the Levant. The signing was attended by Agriculture
Minister Alaa Farouk and representatives from the International Fund for
Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Al-Mashat stated that the partnership reflects the state's
commitment to maximizing the role of the private sector and international
institutions in enhancing food security. She added that the government aims to
increase the agricultural sector’s contribution to GDP to 17 percent by 2030
through a model driven by productivity and exports.
The project will focus on deploying advanced technologies,
including solar energy and the Internet of Things (IoT), to improve operational
efficiency and resource management in the Nile Valley.
Sebastian Riez of Schneider Electric highlighted the
company’s role as one of the first private sector participants in the
"NWFE" program, emphasizing a strategy focused on clean electricity
and smart energy management to reduce emissions.
IFAD officials praised the MoU as a qualitative shift in food security efforts, noting that the collaboration integrates modern technology to build resilience for small-scale farmers against ongoing climate changes.
