President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today, Monday, with Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Presidential Advisor for Health and Prevention Affairs, Major General El-Sayed El-Ghaly, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for Honoring Martyrs, Victims, Missing Persons, and Injured of Military, Terrorist, and Security Operations and their Families, Major General Dr. Eid El-Taweel, Chairman of Locomed Egypt, and Major General Dr. Mohamed Metwally, Head of the Technical Committee for the Prosthetic and Assistive Devices Project and General Manager of the company.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, Official Spokesperson of the Presidency, stated that the President reviewed updates on the prosthetic and assistive devices project, and the state’s efforts through all relevant authorities to establish a comprehensive industrial complex for prosthetic limbs and assistive devices in Egypt. The complex will adhere to the latest international technological and medical standards, in cooperation with global expertise. The meeting emphasized the state’s commitment to providing devices of the highest efficiency and quality, as part of efforts to deliver the best support and empowerment for people with mobility disabilities, enhancing their independence and full integration into society, in line with Egypt’s Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2030.

The spokesperson added that the President also followed up on the localization of prosthetic limbs and assistive devices manufacturing, aiming to provide high-quality devices produced by trained Egyptian hands.

It was noted that work is underway to implement the first phase of the project to establish seven assembly and fitting centers, in coordination with the Ministries of Social Solidarity, Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, and the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority, in partnership with the German company Ottobock.

The official spokesperson indicated that the President instructed robust governance of contracting procedures with prosthetic device manufacturers. This includes ensuring compliance with technical specifications and international quality standards, approving contracts according to clear regulations, periodically evaluating company performance, and verifying that products meet the needs of beneficiaries.

The President also directed the acceleration of domestic manufacturing capacity for prosthetic limbs and assistive devices according to internationally recognized standards, through the establishment of an integrated industrial and service complex to provide services to people with mobility disabilities. This approach considers humanitarian, ethical, and religious principles, while also allowing for the potential development of the complex into a regional center of excellence, offering services to patients with mobility impairments across the region, leveraging Egypt’s existing capabilities in the field of prosthetics and assistive devices.
