Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, Official Spokesperson of the Presidency, stated that the President reviewed updates on the prosthetic and assistive devices project, and the state’s efforts through all relevant authorities to establish a comprehensive industrial complex for prosthetic limbs and assistive devices in Egypt. The complex will adhere to the latest international technological and medical standards, in cooperation with global expertise. The meeting emphasized the state’s commitment to providing devices of the highest efficiency and quality, as part of efforts to deliver the best support and empowerment for people with mobility disabilities, enhancing their independence and full integration into society, in line with Egypt’s Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2030.
The spokesperson added that the President also followed up
on the localization of prosthetic limbs and assistive devices manufacturing,
aiming to provide high-quality devices produced by trained Egyptian hands.
It was noted that work is underway to implement the first
phase of the project to establish seven assembly and fitting centers, in
coordination with the Ministries of Social Solidarity, Planning, Economic
Development, and International Cooperation, and the Egyptian Unified
Procurement Authority, in partnership with the German company Ottobock.
The official spokesperson indicated that the President
instructed robust governance of contracting procedures with prosthetic device
manufacturers. This includes ensuring compliance with technical specifications
and international quality standards, approving contracts according to clear
regulations, periodically evaluating company performance, and verifying that
products meet the needs of beneficiaries.
The President also directed the acceleration of domestic
manufacturing capacity for prosthetic limbs and assistive devices according to
internationally recognized standards, through the establishment of an
integrated industrial and service complex to provide services to people with mobility
disabilities. This approach considers humanitarian, ethical, and religious
principles, while also allowing for the potential development of the complex
into a regional center of excellence, offering services to patients with
mobility impairments across the region, leveraging Egypt’s existing
capabilities in the field of prosthetics and assistive devices.
