The meeting followed a morning session of the Telecom Egypt board of directors, which approved the appointment of El Mahdy as Managing Director and CEO after accepting El Din's request to be relieved of his post and thanking him for his service.
During the meeting, Dr. Talaat emphasized the vital role of
Telecom Egypt in the communications and IT sector, highlighting its active
contribution to the nation's digital transformation efforts and the development
of the digital infrastructure, both domestically and internationally. This role
includes executing strategic projects to enhance international connectivity via
an extensive network of subsea cables and supporting local infrastructure by
deploying fiber-optic cables across the country. TE is also a key partner in
major national projects, notably the digital infrastructure development in
villages under the presidential initiative Decent Life (Haya Karima).
He acknowledged and thanked Mohamed Nasr El Din for his
leadership. Under Nasr El Din, TE significantly strengthened its digital
infrastructure, upgraded its international subsea cable network, and broadened
its portfolio of technological services and solutions.
Dr. Talaat congratulated Tamer El Mahdy on his new role and
stressed the need to leverage past successes to maintain the company's growth
trajectory.
In March 2025, Engineer Tamer El Mahdy was appointed to the Telecom
Egypt board as a representative of the Egyptian government, bringing over 30
years of extensive experience to the position.

telecommunications: he served as CEO of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology
Group (OTMT) from 2014 to 2019, leading its strategic transformation and
diversification across Europe, South Asia, and the Middle East. Prior to that,
he was the CEO of Orascom Telecom Algeria ("Djezzy"), Algeria's
largest mobile operator, from 2008 to 2013.
During his tenure at Orascom Telecom Holding, he also held
key roles, including Group Chief Technology Officer (2003-2008), where he
managed multi-billion dollar investments and launched mobile operations in
Canada, Bangladesh, Iraq, and North Korea. El Mahdy began his career at AT&T,
managing major telecom infrastructure projects across North Africa.
