Petroleum minister visits Suez Gov’t to boost cooperation

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, met with Suez Governor, Major General Tarek Hamed El-Shazly, today to discuss potential areas of cooperation between the petroleum sector and the governorate. The meeting took place at the governorate's general office.

During the meeting, Minister Badawi emphasized the critical role Suez plays in the ministry's strategy, particularly in its second pillar focused on maximizing the use of petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, and infrastructure. He noted that his visit was aimed at supporting the refining companies and their employees, providing the necessary backing to achieve the ministry’s ambitious vision of reaching 100% production efficiency at its refineries in the medium term. This, he said, will boost the national and local economies.

Badawi also underscored the importance of safety and environmental protection, calling it a fundamental pillar of the ministry’s strategy.

Badawi highlighted the petroleum sector's community efforts in Suez, noting that it has contributed nearly EGP 30 million over the past two years to social development projects. He said the ministry is looking to coordinate with the Suez governorate to ensure these contributions are directed to the governorate’s highest-priority projects, maximizing their impact for local residents. These contributions have supported small and micro-enterprise projects as well as initiatives for people with disabilities.

Governor El-Shazly, for his part, stressed the importance of using the Suez-Germany Welding Center to organize training courses in coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum to qualify skilled technical personnel.

He also praised the role of state-owned petroleum product marketing companies in the fuel station system, expressing the governorate's readiness to cooperate with Misr Petroleum, Cooperatives Petroleum, and Wataniya to establish modern fuel stations in Suez, supported by various branded service centers.

The meeting was also attended by Engineer Salah Abdel-Kerim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.
