Urgent: Central Bank slashes interest rates by 1%

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) decided Thursday to cut the overnight deposit and lending rates, as well as the CBE's main operation rate, by 100 basis points.

The rates were reduced to 21.00%, 22.00%, and 21.50%, respectively. The discount rate was also lowered by 100 basis points to 21.50%.

The decision reflects the committee's assessment of the latest inflation developments and forecasts since its previous meeting.
