CBE hosts South African delegation to explore Egypt’s experience

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) recently received a delegation from the South African Reserve Bank for a three-day visit. The visit aimed to learn about Egypt's pioneering experience in establishing and operating the Currency Printing House and Currency Center in the New Administrative Capital.

The delegation included nine experts from the South African Reserve Bank. Their goal was to gain and exchange expertise, while reviewing international best practices. The visit also sought to understand the operational model adopted by the CBE, including automation technologies, workflow efficiency, risk mitigation protocols, and governance mechanisms. In addition, the program covered knowledge exchange on research projects and other currency-related topics.

Engineer Khaled Farouk, Deputy Governor for the Currency Printing House Sector, said the visit reflects the CBE’s openness to cooperation with African central banks. He added that the facilities in the New Administrative Capital, particularly the Printing House and the Currency Center, meet world-class standards.

Dr. Naglaa Nozahie, Advisor to the Governor for African Affairs, noted that visits from African central banks and joint events in banking and regulatory fields are part of Egypt’s strategy to strengthen continental cooperation. She highlighted that the delegation included a distinguished group of experts and expressed confidence in expanding future collaboration with the South African Reserve Bank.

Delia Sampson, head of the South African delegation, expressed appreciation to the Egyptian side. She described the visit as an unforgettable experience that provided valuable insights and knowledge. She added that the exchange is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation across key fields, benefiting both countries and their national economies.

The program included a full tour of the Printing House and another of the Currency Center. Officials from the CBE’s African Cooperation, Printing House, Banking Operations, and Security sectors accompanied the delegation.
