The program is a joint initiative between the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) and the "Engineers for a Sustainable Egypt" foundation. It is billed as the largest of its kind in the country for training non-specialized professionals in AI, particularly for legal and administrative roles.
During the ceremony, Minister Amr Talaat highlighted the
continued collaboration between the two ministries to build digital
capabilities within the justice system. He pointed to a new AI-powered system
that converts spoken words to written text for remote criminal trials, a tool
developed entirely by his ministry's Applied Innovation Center. Talaat said the
system saves time and modernizes the judiciary.
"AI, and informatics in general, are no longer limited
to specialists," Talaat stated, emphasizing that everyone should be able
to harness its potential. He confirmed that the ministries would continue to
work together to apply the latest technologies to support Egypt's judicial system.
Justice Minister Adnan Fangary described the program as an
important step in empowering legal professionals. He said it "opens new
horizons for them in dealing with legal texts, assessing facts, and weighing
evidence," ultimately contributing to faster justice. Fangary added that
under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives, the state is moving
confidently toward full digital transformation.
According to NTI Director Dr. Ahmed Khattab, the program
aims to build a culture of using AI to enhance human efficiency rather than
replace it. He noted that the initiative aligns with the national AI strategy's
goal to enable 36% of Egyptians to use AI in their daily lives within five
years.
This specialized program is the first step toward creating
more tailored training for each sector. Khattab announced that the total number
of graduates from the program has now surpassed 1,100 since its launch last
year.
The 36-hour program, which included a practical project, covered theoretical and applied knowledge. It also addressed ethical and legislative challenges related to AI and provided training on modern tools like ChatGPT and OpenAI. More than 462 legal professionals successfully completed the course.
