Mohamed Naguib overpass in Alexandria opens to ease traffic

Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif El-Sherbiny on Tuesday announced the experimental operation of the new Mohamed Naguib overpass in Alexandria, a key part of a major seafront expansion project.

The 600-meter-long overpass has three lanes and is designed to ease traffic coming from the El-Mansheya area toward Montazah. The project is part of a five-kilometer expansion of the Alexandria Corniche, stretching from Montazah to El-Mahrousa Hotel, and was initiated following directives from Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.

Major General Mahmoud Nassar, head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, inspected the overpass, which is expected to eliminate traffic congestion in the Sidi Bishr area. The project aims to ultimately remove the Sidi Bishr traffic signal entirely once all construction is complete.

The overall expansion of the Alexandria Corniche, which stretches from Montazah to El-Mahrousa Hotel, includes new marine protection, 17 gates, beach entrances, public restrooms, and upgraded pedestrian tunnels, Nassar said.

The final phase of the project is set to begin in mid-September and is scheduled for completion by the end of December 2025.

Nassar also inspected the construction of the multi-level El-Sadat Axis overpass, designed to connect Sadat 45 Street to the International Coastal Road at the intersection with Mustafa Kamel Street.

He explained that the overpass is a vital part of the East Alexandria development plan. It aims to accommodate increasing traffic volumes, reduce travel times, and maximize the benefit of existing infrastructure in the area. Nassar urged workers to accelerate progress and complete the project on schedule.
