Discussions focused on the EDA’s central role as regulator
and supervisor of all medical supplies in the Egyptian market, and how this
position can serve as a foundation for the success of the initiative. The talks
also addressed challenges related to industrial infrastructure, technology
transfer, local capacity building, and the development of regulatory frameworks
that ensure the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality products.
El-Ghamrawy underlined that building a domestic medical
supplies industry is a cornerstone of Egypt’s plan to secure self-sufficiency
and reinforce health security. He noted that the EDA is working to create a
regulatory and legislative environment attractive to investment, while
fostering international partnerships that drive local industry development and
guarantee access to safe, high-quality supplies.
The WB delegation expressed strong interest in the
initiative and pledged to explore the most effective mechanisms for technical
and financial cooperation—ranging from project financing and knowledge transfer
to private sector partnerships that can boost local manufacturing.
Delegates also commended the EDA’s progress in strengthening
regulatory and legislative frameworks for the medical supplies sector,
describing it as a pioneering model in the region. They emphasized that such
achievements inspire investor confidence and support the success of Egypt’s
localization strategy.
From the EDA, participants included Dr. Amani Goudat, Head
of the Central Administration for the Chairman’s Office; Dr. Mariam Boulos,
Head of the Central Administration for Medical Supplies; and Dr. Osama Hatem,
Head of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Policies and Market
Support. The WB delegation included Dr. Ahmed El-Bakry, Pre-Investment Officer
and Focal Point, and Ahmed El-Gendy, Investment Analyst.
This meeting comes as part of the EDA’s broader efforts to
build strategic international partnerships, advance national health development
plans, and position Egypt as a regional hub for the medical supplies and
medical devices industry.
