Russia's ROSATOM to build nuclear medicine center in Egypt

Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobki, hosted a high-level Russian delegation to discuss potential partnerships in the health sector. The meeting took place at the authority's main headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The Russian delegation included Alexey Yakunin, Russia’s Trade Representative in Egypt, Anastasiya Muravieva, Deputy Trade Representative, Murad Aslanov, CEO of the Russian company ROSATOM in Egypt, and Alexey Vladimirovich Altynbayev, co-founder of Polymed.

Dr. El-Sobki highlighted the strong and long-standing relationship between Egypt and Russia, noting that the meeting reflects the Egyptian leadership's commitment to opening new avenues of cooperation. He described the current moment as a "golden opportunity" to attract Russian investment to Egypt, which he called the gateway to Africa and the Middle East.

According to Dr. El-Sobki, the talks with ROSATOM focused on the possibility of establishing an integrated international center for the diagnosis and treatment of tumors using nuclear medicine and radiotherapy. This project, part of the second phase of Egypt's Universal Health Insurance system, would serve as a hub for future expansion in this field and represents a promising investment in advanced health services. The center would also aim to provide health screening programs for Arab and African countries and produce medical radioisotopes using advanced technology.

Discussions also included a potential partnership with Polymed to enhance mobile healthcare services powered by artificial intelligence. These services would focus on routine check-ups, home care, and door-to-door campaigns to ensure that advanced healthcare reaches every citizen.

Dr. El-Sobki stressed that transferring and localizing Russian expertise in nuclear medicine and radiotherapy is a top priority. This would involve integrating Russian protocols into the authority's framework, twinning with major health institutions, training staff, and applying global best practices to build a comprehensive and sustainable health system.

For his part, Alexey Yakunin thanked the authority for its hospitality and cooperation. He extended an invitation to Dr. El-Sbki and the authority's leadership to attend "Nuclear Day" in Russia to learn about the latest technological applications in medicine and life sciences.

The meeting was also attended by several senior officials from the General Authority for Healthcare, including CEO Dr. Amir El-Telwany and various department heads.
