Electricity Minister meets UAE's Masdar to boost renewable projects

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with a delegation from the UAE's Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, to discuss bolstering cooperation on renewable energy projects.

Led by Masdar's CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, the meeting focused on accelerating the implementation of ongoing projects, including those for solar and wind power generation and energy storage. The discussions also covered the swift integration of these projects into Egypt's national grid.

According to a ministry statement, the talks align with Egypt's national energy strategy, which aims to diversify energy sources, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and lower carbon emissions.

Esmat highlighted the ministry's plan to add new renewable energy capacities, supported by energy storage systems, to secure power supply and stabilize the grid. He affirmed Egypt's goal of reaching a renewable energy contribution of over 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040.

The Minister praised the partnership with Masdar, noting that their joint projects are crucial for increasing the share of renewables in the country's energy mix, as part of Egypt's Vision 2030 sustainable development strategy.
