Preparatory meetings for the 33rd session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Committee began in Amman on Sunday, bringing together experts from both countries. The meetings are being held at a critical time amid ongoing regional and geopolitical challenges, as the two nations seek to advance their economic relations.

The experts' discussions will lay the groundwork for ministerial-level meetings, co-chaired by Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, and Jordan's Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Falah al-Qudah.

This will be followed by the convening of the Higher Joint Committee, which will be led by Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and his Jordanian counterpart, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan.

Al-Mashat highlighted the importance of the committee's regular meetings, which she said underscore the strong relations between the two nations and their shared commitment to continuous progress across all sectors. She emphasized that the meetings are crucial for boosting economic ties and trade, and for overcoming any challenges in their joint work.

The Minister noted that the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Committee is one of the oldest and most consistent joint Arab committees, and that since its first session in 1985, more than 173 cooperation agreements have been signed. These agreements cover various priority areas, including economic, trade, investment, cultural, scientific, and technical fields, and have been instrumental in increasing bilateral trade and investment, as well as facilitating the exchange of expertise.

Al-Mashat stated that the 33rd session will address a wide range of topics of mutual interest, particularly in light of regional developments. Key discussions will focus on exploring new opportunities for cooperation in trade, economy, and investment, as well as developing relations in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), food security, and addressing the status of Egyptian workers in Jordan. The committee will also continue efforts to exchange expertise, provide joint training, and monitor the progress of technical committees.

The joint committees mechanism is a primary tool used by Egypt to enhance economic, trade, and investment ties with partner nations. The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation oversees approximately 55 joint committees with countries from around the world.

In 2024, the ministry held joint committee meetings with Romania, Jordan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the inaugural session of the Egyptian-Polish Joint Committee. Most recently, the first session of the Egyptian-Swiss Joint Committee was held in 2025.
