Petroleum Ministry targets illegal dens, gas stations

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has announced the results of its routine field inspections and surprise checks conducted in the last week of July to combat violations in the trading of petroleum products. The inspections are part of an effort to protect state resources, ensure petroleum products reach their intended recipients, and curb manipulation and smuggling.

The central committee for monitoring distribution at the EGPC launched several campaigns targeting various illegal hubs, non-compliant fuel stations, and vans used to smuggle petroleum products. The results were as follows:

In Aswan governorate, the central committee's teams achieved significant results in combating smuggling and manipulation. They seized 1.4 million liters that had been illegally disposed of at a fuel station in the Al-Owaynia area of Edfu district, leading to a police report filed under case number 1875. Another 100,000 liters, also illegally disposed of at a different fuel station in Edfu, resulted in a separate police report under case number 1874.

The teams also raided a hub in the Al-Hakroub area of Aswan, where they found 85 barrels, each with a capacity of 60 liters, filled with illegally obtained diesel intended for smuggling. In addition, several pickup and jumbo trucks, some without license plates, were seized while carrying barrels of illegally obtained diesel and gasoline.

In Sohag governorate, the committee seized a jumbo truck illegally loaded with containers of diesel at a fuel station in the Al-Kashh area of Dar Al-Salam district. A police report was filed in coordination with the Sohag Supply Directorate.

Another operation uncovered the illegal hoarding of more than 37,000 liters of gasoline and diesel at a fuel station in the Al-Kashh area. Legal measures have been taken against the station's management.

The central committee's work also included surprise inspections of 20 fuel stations across 10 governorates: Qalyubia, Gharbia, Beheira, Alexandria, Suez, Kafr El-Sheikh, Port Said, Damietta, Sohag, and Aswan. During these inspections, one fuel station was found to be operating without civil defense approval and was shut down until it meets all operating conditions and obtains the necessary permits. Additionally, four non-stamped and tampered-with diesel nozzles were discovered at one station. They were confiscated and taken out of service until they could be properly stamped and recalibrated. Another fuel station in Qalyubia governorate was shut down due to a lack of fire safety measures.

The committee has contacted the relevant marketing companies regarding all the issues identified at these stations, urging them to rectify the problems immediately. Marketing and inspection officials at these companies have been strictly instructed to conduct comprehensive and regular reviews of all their affiliated outlets to ensure safe and optimal operation and to address any issues promptly.
