Chinese textile firms sign three contracts in SCZone

The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has signed three new textile and garment manufacturing agreements worth a combined $65.5 million (3.2 billion Egyptian pounds) with Chinese companies, SCZone Chairman Walid Gamal El-Din announced Thursday. The self-funded projects in the Qantara West industrial zone are expected to create 6,000 direct jobs, with 90% of production earmarked for export.

The agreements were inked during an SCZone promotional tour in China, aimed at boosting international cooperation and attracting foreign direct investment.

Two of the deals are with Shandong SUNSHELL Garment Group Ltd., a major textile and apparel manufacturer. One contract establishes a high-quality ready-to-wear clothing factory on 23,000 square meters, with a $7 million investment. It aims to produce over 11 million garments annually, providing 2,000 jobs. The second agreement with Shandong SUNSHELL is for an advanced textile industrial complex spanning 100,000 square meters, with a $30 million investment, creating 1,000 jobs. This complex will produce over 2 million tons of textiles annually. Both Shandong SUNSHELL agreements were signed by its chairwoman, Yong Ju.

The third contract is with Zhejiang Charming for Dyeing & Finishing Co., a high-tech Chinese firm specializing in blended fiber knitted fabrics. This $28.5 million integrated project, on 100,000 square meters, will create 3,000 direct jobs. It includes a full production line from circular knitting to ready-made garments, with an annual capacity of 12,000 tons of fabrics for children's wear, sportswear, home textiles, and luxury items. The company's chairman and owner, Mo Binrong, signed the agreement. Ninety percent of this production will be exported to European and American markets.

Gamal El-Din stated that the agreements underscore growing Chinese investor confidence in the SCZone, particularly its focus on integrating textile industry components in Qantara West to foster a competitive, export-oriented sector.

These three projects bring the total number of contracted projects in the Qantara West industrial zone to 31, representing $799.6 million in investments across 2,017,400 square meters. Collectively, these projects are expected to generate 44,455 direct jobs, reinforcing the SCZone's position as a promising regional industrial hub for textiles and ready-made garments, and contributing to Egypt's manufacturing, export, and employment goals.

Shandong SUNSHELL, founded in 1956, is a global leader in integrated textile and garment solutions. Zhejiang Charming specializes in eco-friendly advanced fabrics with a robust supply chain.
