Badawi made the remarks during an inspection of the main
control center for the National Natural Gas Grid (NATA), operated by GASCO in
New Cairo. He reviewed the operational status of the natural gas pumping system
across the national grid, ensuring efficient operations and the steady flow of
gas from domestic production and via three regasification vessels currently
operating at the SUMED and SONKER ports in Ain Sokhna.
The minister highlighted the successful securing of fuel and
gas supplies for the electricity sector in recent days, despite a significant
rise in temperatures. This success, he noted, is a result of the national
grid's operational scenarios and emergency maneuvers. Badawi also emphasized
ongoing coordination and cooperation between the Ministry of Petroleum and
Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy. Joint
working teams, he added, operate around the clock to determine and ensure the
electricity sector's gas requirements are met, relying on agreed-upon imported
liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments.
Badawi stressed that all relevant state bodies are
continuing their integrated efforts to secure the local market's fuel and
natural gas needs, thereby ensuring the stability of the energy system and
serving economic development goals.
The minister was accompanied by Moataz Atef, Undersecretary for Technical Affairs and Minister's Office, and the ministry's official spokesperson, as well as Yasser Salah, Chairman of GASCO.
