Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare, held talks with Ahmed Sami El-Hofy, Regional Director of Janssen, the pharmaceutical arm of Johnson and Johnson responsible for Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, Libya, and Ethiopia. The meeting took place at the Authority’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital and focused on strengthening cooperation in the healthcare sector.

The General Authority for Healthcare was represented by a senior delegation that included Dr. Ahmed Hammad, Advisor to the Chairman for Health Policy and Systems and Director General of Strategic Planning; Dr. Mahmoud El-Deeb, Deputy Executive Director for Planning and Health Mapping and Director of the Technical Office; Dr. Ahmed El-Barai, Deputy Executive Director for Technical Affairs and Follow-up and Director General of the Executive Director’s Office; Dr. Heba Oweida, Director General of Research and Development; Dr. Mohamed Badr, Director General of Secondary and Tertiary Care; Dr. Mohamed Abu El-Magd, Director of Events and Visual Identity; and Dr. Maha Said, Director of the Pharmacovigilance Unit.

The Janssen delegation included Dr. Hatem Dawood, Market Access Manager at Johnson and Johnson; Dr. Mohamed Abdel Maksoud, Director of Strategic Accounts; and Dr. Sherif Abdel-Gawad, Director of Public and Government Affairs.

Ahmed El-Sobky announced an agreement to establish a Center of Excellence for Oncology in Aswan Governorate in cooperation with Janssen. The initiative includes the launch of an Integrated Practice Unit designed to deliver advanced specialty care in line with international models of integrated healthcare. A digital platform will also be developed to provide medical teams across the Authority with real-time access to the latest updates in treatment protocols and medical innovations.

The partnership is set to introduce advanced therapies in key areas such as oncology, immunology, mental health, and rare diseases. It will focus on localizing treatment protocols, supporting clinical research, and applying evidence-based care models to improve patient outcomes and raise the quality of healthcare services.

Capacity building has been established as a core component of the collaboration. Medical and administrative staff will receive targeted training in communication, innovative treatment techniques, digital transformation, and the use of artificial intelligence in clinical practice. This initiative contributes to the Authority’s broader strategy for developing smart and sustainable healthcare systems.

The cooperation extends to support Egypt’s medical tourism initiative under the We Care in Egypt brand. Agreements include providing comprehensive treatment packages for complex and rare conditions to attract international patients while also meeting domestic healthcare needs.

Ahmed El-Sobky invited the Janssen delegation to visit the Virtual Care Hospital in Ismailia and the National Center for Health Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Applications. The center has been positioned as a regional hub for digital innovation and health technology.

Janssen’s regional leadership expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation and praised the rapid progress in Egypt’s healthcare infrastructure. The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the delivery of high-quality, innovative healthcare services in Egypt, with a particular focus on oncology, immunology, mental health, scientific research, and capacity development.
