Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk affirmed that Egypt is exploring innovative mechanisms to finance its healthcare system, stressing the government's commitment to strengthening international partnerships in support of achieving universal health coverage for all Egyptians.

During his meeting with Dr. Hanan Balkhy, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Kouchouk said that investment in health remains a top priority within the country’s public spending on human development. He noted that EGP 617.9 billion has been allocated to the healthcare sector in the current fiscal year, adding that ensuring the financial sustainability of Egypt’s healthcare system is essential to expanding access to quality services for citizens.

Dr. Balkhy, speaking in the presence of Mai Farid, Executive Director of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, expressed WHO’s readiness to cooperate with Egypt in supporting innovative financing mechanisms for health systems and assisting in the development of policies aimed at providing equitable healthcare services for all citizens. She added that WHO looks forward to working with Egypt to expand fiscal space for health and improve the quality of services delivered to citizens.

She also emphasized the importance of continued technical cooperation and the exchange of expertise in health system financing, which plays a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the healthcare sector.
