During his meeting with Dr. Hanan Balkhy, Regional Director
of the World Health Organization (WHO), Kouchouk said that investment in health
remains a top priority within the country’s public spending on human
development. He noted that EGP 617.9 billion has been allocated to the
healthcare sector in the current fiscal year, adding that ensuring the
financial sustainability of Egypt’s healthcare system is essential to expanding
access to quality services for citizens.
Dr. Balkhy, speaking in the presence of Mai Farid, Executive
Director of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, expressed
WHO’s readiness to cooperate with Egypt in supporting innovative financing
mechanisms for health systems and assisting in the development of policies
aimed at providing equitable healthcare services for all citizens. She added
that WHO looks forward to working with Egypt to expand fiscal space for health
and improve the quality of services delivered to citizens.
She also emphasized the importance of continued technical
cooperation and the exchange of expertise in health system financing, which
plays a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the
healthcare sector.
