Housing Minister follows up on CBD Operations in New Capital

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting with officials from Horizon Company to follow up on the operational procedures for the Central Business District (CBD) in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Housing, the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), and Encom.

El-Sherbiny stressed the importance of applying the highest standards in the operation and maintenance of the district, in line with signed protocols and agreements. He highlighted the need to comply with occupational health and safety regulations and civil protection requirements to safeguard the substantial investments made in the project. The minister noted that the CBD is being implemented for the first time in Egypt and represents a major milestone in the New Capital, stressing that its successful operation must meet international standards.

The discussions also addressed the formation of dedicated work teams and the provision of appropriate training prior to the operational launch, with an emphasis on certified programs approved by relevant authorities. The meeting further reviewed the district’s integrated electronic systems for monitoring, control, and operations, which rely on advanced technology to ensure efficient and secure management.

El-Sherbiny directed all relevant parties to accelerate the completion of procedures and enhance coordination between the executing bodies and the operator, in line with the project's scheduled delivery timeline.

The Central Business District features a diverse collection of mixed-use towers designed for administrative, residential, commercial, and service purposes. It includes ten towers allocated for office, administrative, commercial, and service use, covering a total built-up area of 806,000 square meters with building heights ranging from 80 to 175 meters. The district also includes five residential towers comprising 1,700 fully finished units across a combined area of 102,000 square meters with heights between 152 and 200 meters. In addition, the Crescent Towers, which consist of four interconnected buildings, offer hotel services, serviced apartments, public amenities, retail spaces, and entertainment facilities rising to a height of 64 meters.

The most prominent structure in the CBD is the Iconic Tower, the tallest building in Africa, standing at approximately 400 meters. The tower houses a globally recognized hotel brand operating in Egypt and Africa for the first time, alongside high-end administrative offices, serviced apartments, and a wide-ranging commercial zone offering business, hospitality, and leisure services. The tower consists of 40 floors of multi-use office space, 10 floors of serviced apartments with 52 units, and 30 hotel floors containing 183 rooms. The total built-up area of the tower reaches 266,000 square meters, making it a landmark of Egypt’s ongoing urban transformation.
