AI Council reviews progress of Egypt’s National Strategy 2025–2030

The National Council for Artificial Intelligence (AI), chaired by Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, held a meeting to review the implementation status of Egypt’s National AI Strategy 2025–2030. The meeting was attended by council members and a number of experts from various economic and technological fields.

The session featured a presentation of the key indicators from the second edition of the AI Strategy (2025–2030), along with its main focus areas, which include governance, technology, high-quality data availability, computing infrastructure, ecosystem development, and skills. Attendees also reviewed the major achievements since the updated version of the strategy was launched earlier this year.

The meeting addressed efforts to establish an effective regulatory framework for the responsible use of AI, and to enhance international cooperation by actively participating in regional and global AI dialogues. Participants also reviewed the draft Open Data Policy, developed as a transitional measure ahead of issuing the Data Governance and Classification Law, which aims to regulate, classify, and enable access to government data.

The discussion highlighted several ongoing projects aimed at developing sector-specific AI solutions, as well as various programs and initiatives launched to support AI startups and promote research and development in the field.

In addition, the council discussed capacity-building efforts in collaboration with major global technology companies, with the goal of increasing the number of AI specialists in Egypt. The meeting also included a review of Egypt’s AI Readiness Report, prepared in cooperation with UNESCO.

It is worth noting that the National Council for AI was established by a decision from Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly in November 2019. The council is responsible for formulating and governing the national AI strategy through coordination among relevant entities to ensure a unified approach that reflects government priorities and the interests of all stakeholders in the application of AI technologies. The council also oversees the implementation, follow-up, and continuous updating of the strategy in line with global developments.
