Egypt, France deepen collaboration in food safety and trade

Egypt and France are set to enhance cooperation on food safety, Cairo's National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced Tuesday, following a meeting between top officials.

NFSA chairman Dr. Tarek El-Houby met with Pascal Forth, head of the French Economic Mission in Cairo, at the NFSA's headquarters. Jean-Philippe Doux, the regional agricultural counsellor at the French Embassy, also attended along with other NFSA leaders.

Discussions focused on bolstering joint efforts in food safety, product control, and export-import procedures. The talks also explored how Egypt could leverage French expertise to upgrade its local market regulatory system, improve risk assessment and analysis, and boost the technical and scientific skills of its food safety workforce.

El-Houby stressed the importance of embracing international best practices and fostering strategic partnerships to align Egypt's food safety system with global standards. He highlighted the NFSA's crucial role in ensuring food safety within the domestic market and facilitating the entry of Egyptian food products into regional and international markets.

Pascal Forth commended the NFSA's work in developing Egypt's food safety regulatory framework. He affirmed France's commitment to deepening cooperation, offering technical support, and encouraging French investment in Egypt's food processing sector.

Jean-Philippe Doux underscored the significance of coordination in the food and agricultural industries, particularly in developing supply chains, fostering scientific and research exchange, and backing food safety training programs.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to continue discussions on concrete steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
