Badawi inspects SCADA-based butane monitoring project at Petrogas

Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, conducted an inspection tour of the butane gas circulation monitoring project using the SCADA system at Petrogas, following the completion of all phases of the project to cover all the company's sites nationwide.

He stressed the importance of implementing the SCADA system for butane gas, a strategic and vital commodity that impacts the daily lives of citizens. He emphasized the need to coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure that butane gas cylinders reach citizens at the approved standard weights, as part of the completion of the storage, transportation, and distribution system.

Badawi indicated that the Ministry and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation are fully prepared to provide all forms of support to ensure the sustainable development of the butane gas circulation and distribution system, ensuring easy, smooth, and safe access to citizens.

The Minister and his entourage listened to a presentation by Project Manager Walid Abdo of EPROM, the SCADA project consultant, on the SCADA project's mechanism for monitoring butane circulation and inventory on a real-time basis, from local production and import sites to filling and distribution sites.

Mohamed Ibrahim Farhat, Chairman of Petrogas, explained that the SCADA project enables real-time monitoring of butane gas balances at the company's various sites across the country, linking them directly to the petroleum products movement and handling monitoring room at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC). He pointed out that the SCADA system relies on the latest digital transformation technologies to monitor the quantities traded and control the sector's work cycle.

Farhat also reviewed the company's plan for the digital transformation of the butane gas system, extending until 2028. This plan includes several complementary projects, most notably the Tank Gauging System, the Tanker Monitoring and Management Project, and the Data Management Project for butane gas cylinder filling equipment.

The Minister was accompanied during the tour by Engineer Salah Abdel Karim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, and Engineer Moataz Atef, Undersecretary for the Minister's Office and Technical Office Affairs and the Ministry's Official Spokesperson.
